DMU Chapter 1: Calm Before the Storm

DM POST

The group, as they approached and/or were nearby the camp, due to the ruckus they were causing, had attracted the attention of someone in the camp.

"HEY! You all! Quiet down! You wanna give our positions away to the enemy?!" The deep, gruff voice would scream at them over the winds of the Mist Valley. If the members of the group looked they would see what appeared to be a giant bird of sorts standing at the front of the camp, facing them. Its eyebrows were most noticeable, almost barely fitting on its face in a cartoonish, angry manner. Upon closer inspection, it would be revealed to be the monster Great Emperor Penguin. He was massive--about 7 feet tall and a tad wide. He was wearing a pendant around his neck, and what appeared to be armor around his chest.

"If you're here to join the cause--" The Penguin was cut off as several screeches filled the air. The screeches were a mixture of large bird and a woman in pain. Then, the air filled with laughter and the sound of flapping wings as 6 Harpies flew down between the group and the camp. The first, Harpie Lady 1, spoke first.

"Well, well, well. What do we have here? Some breakfast? You know, you monsters shouldn't be poking around--let alone setting up camp--in our hunting grounds. You realize that right?" She licked her lips as she looked down at Mokey, Battleball, and Gigobyte, the smallest of the group. The other Harpies just laughed.

"Hm...Harpies...great." Emperor Penguin muttered. Then he shouted to the group.

"If you wish to join the cause, take these Harpies out and we'll discuss matters. Good luck!" And with that, he waddled off back into the camp, leaving the others to deal with the Harpie Sisters.

Mokey looks to the harpies ladies that seemed to view him as food. Well he couldn't blame them for being hungry: after all he did look like a marshmallow. In any case, he would look at the harpies lady sisters and gave zero fucks.

"Well bois, we got some sum ass to kick yeh?" He would say to the other monsters around him in his calm voice.

While he gave no fucks, he wasn't stupid either. A single attack could probably kill him, and he didn't want to go to the great beyond. So he simply stood there with his wings flapping. If it comes down to it, he would simply act as bait while the others kick their asses.

Bol'gar paused when the penguin called out to them, and drew his sword when the Harpie's descended. And, even with all he'd been through in life, even with all the darkness he had roiling inside of him, he couldn't help but let his eye twitch at a giant penguin screaming orders at him. Still, if Bol'gar wanted to find rest before resuming his quest, he would have to fight.

His eyes scanned the Harpies before narrowing and counting the members of the party. Another two swordsmen, a fairy of sorts, a demon, and then... the rest. He groaned and gripped the sword that shuddered with excitement, spreading his legs and kneeling in a battle-ready position.

"Well, I guess this is one way to prove our worth. How... wonderful." The last word rolled off of the corrupt warrior's tongues like venom, and for very obvious reasons, he was not pleased by the current events before him.

He couldn't imagine the idiocy waiting for him in the near future.

Makan finally could stand upright again and now saw the angelic creature in front of him. "Yes, I'm fine. I am used to small shocks to my system like that." It was then he heard the shouting of the emperor penguin. He looked like a pretty powerful figure, he might have to talk to him to provide reinforcements for his home. After that the screeching of the bird ladies which he had never seen before was heard.

After they were done talking he knew that this battle would be a though one, they were well equipped and seeing from how they talked were quite offensive. He wasn't sure if his defense would be able to protect him against them so he had to rely on the strangers around him to protect him.

"O...kay then." He said as the giant penguin came out of the tent. He remembers old tales as a child in storybooks about cartoonish characters, and he fit the bill. Once the Harpies arrived, he grew worried.

"LVL 3," he said to his apprentice. "Stay close. This will be your first real test of strength."

From behind him, he drew his sword from a large sheath. There was no sound when it was drawn, but the air around him slightly shifted as if it reacted to the blade, as compensation for the absence of noise, maybe? (Silent Swordsman lel)

For now, he planned on staying on the defensive, so he may stay close to his student.

The Harpie that spoke, Harpie Lady 1, moved back with the rest of them. Harpie Ladies 2 and 3 then readied their talons, ready to dive in on their next meal, while the other three, Harpie Lady Sisters, moved to the front line. Harpie Ladies 1, 2, and 3 were each wearing their own Cyber Shields.

Ganymede backed up in alarm. It seemed she would have to fight her way past these things if she wished to proceed to the town. So be it. She looked up, seeing the moon was still present in the early morning sky, albeit fading. Just enough for her to have power for this fight alone. The back of her right palm glowed faintly, which she kept pointed away from the harpies.

The small swordsman looked up to the Harpie monsters in the sky with shields and then reached back to his blades. The thought then came across his mind. He was not capable of dealing with these monsters, not even with his teacher's help. However he could try, they were just too powerful. Though he needed to put up a front to please his master. As such he mimicked his teacher in stance with his blades.

Mokey stood there just staring the harpies. He wondered if they were going to eat him first considering he looked like a marshmallow. The situation seemed well serious, but Mokey just stood there and watched. Of course he couldn't stand in one place forever, so he decided to look for an opportunity to move.

"Man dis gon be some Berserk shit homie." He would say calmly while giving zero fucks about the situation.

As Gigobyte was talking more monsters came. One was a penguin saying this was a resistance camp, while others introduced themselves. Gigobyte was about to when 3 harpie ladies appeared. They seemed intent on a fight and eyed the weaker monsters first. Gigobyte would put in small clay on his axe, but not use it yet, that would hinder everyone there. Gigobyte would wait for the right moment to use it, but right now Gigobyte would stay near the Silent swordsmen. Strength in numbers and right now Gigobyte was very weak. Keeping eye contact with the enemy Gigobyte would not let his guard down at all.

Makan immediately fell back to the backlines, he knew that his biggest strength was his ability to synchronize himself with his allies, however he had not yet mastered this so all he could do is stand in the back and hope to survive.

"Hmmm..." The swordsman was worried. He looked back to LVL 3, and noticed his stance. He didn't like it. One day he'll learn his own style, but not it's not the right time...

"Try to stay close. I'm not sure how we will handle this."

The Forbidden One was still somewhat behind the ragtag group of monsters when they were approached by the penguin and subsequently the group of harpies. He halted where he was, hovering and observing as the penguin waddled off and the two groups of monsters readied for battle. As he was in his weakened state, his limbs and power with them still sealed away he would be of little use in this fight even if he did choose to aid the Harpy's prey.

Bol'gar widened his legs slightly, to give himself better balance, while holding his blade across his body defensively. His eyes darted from harpy to harpy, but eventually came to settle on the three sisters that seemed to be leading the flock. His eyes narrowed, his body tensed and ready for a slash at any moment. His glare was challenging, as if saying, "Come at me, birds."

Harpie Lady 2 soon initiated. Dashing forward, her speed would be almost blinding to the eye, as to be expected from monsters boosted by the wind around the Valley. Flying right past Dark Lucius, Harpie Lady 2 went straight for the Mokey Mokey, talons extended, with her right talon thrusting forward in an attempt to impale Mokey through his face-body.

Harpie Lady 3 followed suit, dashing only a second after Harpie Lady 2 took off. She followed her sister, but turned slightly and extended her own talons at Gigobyte in an attempt to skewer him.

Harpie Lady 1 went a different route. Flying up, she observed the group keenly before spotting her target. Lurching forward she dashed with blinding speeds straight at Battleball in an attempt to pick him up and carry him into the air.

The Harpie Lady Sisters that remained sat back and giggled amongst themselves, as they began to gather in a particularly odd formation, and held their talons towards each other, preparing a spell. As they began preparing it, a mysterious fire would begin enveloping the three of them while the slight image of a phoenix would arise from behind them.

Mokey would look to the oncoming attack from Harpie Lady 2. If a single attack hits him then he's pretty much dead. "Oh hells no niggah," he would say giving zero fucks as he started fly out of the attack and headed towards Dark Lucius. He then would whisper to Dark Lucius, "Bruh I'mma be distract her ass. You can impale her while I do dat bruh."

Makan saw the Harpie coming towards him with her sharp talons he would not survive a lot of hits from her, maybe 2 at best. So he took his staff in 1 hand and held it behind his back making sure the harpie would have a hard time grabbing his staff making him a harder target, by positioning himself in such a way, he made sure the only way she would be able to grab him was with a close in of both her talons or by going directly for his staff

"We have bigger problems." Bol'gar nodded for Mokey Mokey to keep up the distractions before running forward as fast as he possibly good, sword readied with his eyes set on the Sisters. When he neared them, he would slash to the side, aiming to cover the bottom two in the triangle, his hips and legs turning with the swing so he could spin and duck if need be.

Mokey would nod and look to the Harpie lady sisters. He didn't think whatever they were doing was good, so he decided to distract them. He would take his Tokkosho of Ghost destroying and throw it at one of the harpie lady sisters. Then he would aid Dark Lucius as he would continue to act as a decoy. He would make himself vulnerable to his opponent so that Lucius could strike.

Gigobyte seeing Harpie lady 2 fly off in the corner if his eye prepared for another sister to attack. Harpie lady 3 followed him, her talons outstretched. Gigobyte would quickly dodge roll to the left, now being closer to silent swordsman, almost right beside him. more than likely the Harpie would take some time to adjust herself after she went so fast, Gigobyte rook this time to whisper to Silent swordsman. "Hey, my axe here can slow down the harpies, although it'll slow everyone too. So I'll create a disrration so you can hit it from behind. Just br prepared for when I use it and if you can tell the others." As Gigobyte finished he would dart away to the right, but not too far away from silent Swordsman. Gigobyte kept an eye of the other harpies, making sure if one went for him he would be ready. Then waving his arms and sticking out his tongue he would try and catch the Harpie lady 3 to come at him again.

Ganymede observed the Harpie's tactics. Clearly, they were more interested in food than actually fighting the group, and as a result were aiming for the smaller, weaker targets. Her eyes focused on the Sisters. Judging from the monsters she saw among the group, only a few of them would actually be able to damage these blasted beasts, two of which being herself and the dark swordsman she saw springing to attack the three in front of the group. That left her to deal with the other three.
"Time to get my wings dirty."
One of the harpies had turned before she attacked, which already warranted a significant drop in speed. She sprung at said Harpie(the one attacking Gigobyte) with wings extended, summoning the Rod of Silence in her left hand and throwing a moonlight-infused punch at the target with her right.

Before Harpie Lady 3 could turn fully due to her speed, she was met with a moonlit punch from Maiden, causing her to fall to the ground, clenching her face.

Harpie Lady 2 was about to re position herself, as was Harpie Lady 1, when all of a sudden they paused in their tracks upon hearing a particular sound. The Sisters who were channeling also stopped channeling in time to avoid Dark Lucius's swing by flying up. 5 of the Harpies (The 6th being in pain from being deck in the fucking face) looked up, and the group would begin to hear the sound of a little girl screaming--not in pain, but moreso yelling, as if it was angry. Then, a Harpie Girl fluttered down between everyone. Turning, she put her tiny hands on her hips and glared at the Harpies, who simply stared at her.

"Didn't you hear me! Big brother said it's time to come home! So stop playing with your..." She turned and noticed all the monsters in the group.

"...Friends...And come home before he gets mad! You wouldn't want him to let Fluffy out would you?" Upon hearing the name "Fluffy" all 6 Harpies' faces turned to fear and panic, and they all, simultaneously, began to fly away, leaving Harpie Girl behind. She sighed.

"Sorry about that, guys. My big sisters are like wild animals when they're hungry or bored. My name's Madeline. I'll let my sisters know not to bother you guys again...Again, sorry. I would love to talk but I have to go too! It was nice meeting you all!" And with that, Harpie Girl took off, leaving the others to wonder what the hell just happened.

"Hehehe...Now you guys know not to make such a big ruckus." An unfamiliar voice would call to them from the direction of the camp. If the group looked over they would see a knight adorned in amber-yellow armor, holding what appeared to be two daggers in his hands, leaning against one of the poles that held up a tent.

"So are you all just going to stand there, or are you gonna come in?" He asked them.

Bol'gar stood there for a moment after the Harpies left, a strange look in his eye. The sword in his hand emanated a weird, almost pained sound, as if begging the women to come back. For a moment, it almost seemed as if Bol'gar would comply, but he sighed in frustration and sheathed his sword, the strange, guttural cries falling quiet. The dark swordsman walked towards the camp, looking to the rest for some sort of assurance before continuing. He paused in front of the armored knight, sizing him up before tilting his head.

"I'm Bol'gar. Yourself, warrior?" He did not extend a hand to shake, didn't nod in greeting. The firm and unfaltering stare he gave was, in his book, the only greeting two swordsman needed.

Mokey, realizing that the fight had abruptly ended, picked up his thrown Tokkosho of Ghost Destroying and would head into the camp.

"It's time for food to get in mah belly," he would say calmly always giving zero fucks.

While the situation ended in a rather anti-climatic way; it still doesn't change the fact that he may have avoided death. In any case, the best thing he would do is see what the camp offers, besides food of course. His current state would only make him a decoy at best, and he wondered if he could actually get stronger and become a true niggah. As he entered the camp he would introduce himself to the knight in yellow-amber armor.

"Yo wassup homie? My name is Mokey. Nice to meet you my niggah." He would say in his calm voice giving zero fucks as always.

"Well, that was certainly strange." He said as he sheathed his sword. "Come, let us go inside." He said to LVL 3 as he put a hand on his shoulder. He then started to walk.

Once he saw the person in armor, his curiosity peaked. "Hello, sirs." He said to Mokey and the man in armor. "What kind of camp is this exactly?" He asked.
